The Glass of Lead & Gold is a novella set in the Mirrorworld, though it doesn't bear any reference to the characters in the Reckless series or add anything worthwhile to the setting. What it is, though, is a charming and at times thought-provoking story of an orphan, Tabetha Brown, struggling to make a living as a mudlark on the Themse, with delightful illustrations by the author. The majority of the tale takes place on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and the whole story is suffused with a very Christmassy feel. A shame that there were a couple of plot inconsistencies that detracted from the enjoyment; in a book that's less than 100 pages it shouldn't be too hard to keep track of which hand Ofelia is missing, especially when there's a helpful illustration. In a land of elves, mermaids and trolls, true magic is where you least expect it... In the snow-covered city of Londra, young Tabetha survives by finding treasures in the mudbanks of the river Themse. On Christmas Eve, a sinister stranger asks her to keep her eyes open for a priceless, long-lost magical object: the Glass of Lead and Gold. As word of the Glass spreads across the city, Tabetha finds herself with some unlikely companions, not least a one-armed girl and a rather impressive soup chef. But will Tabetha discover that there are even greater fortunes to be found than the magical Glass? Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
