( ) Probably more of a 3.5 This was not as lighthearted as I expected. While this is a cute romance, it also deals with some heavier topics like the grieving process and death of a parent. The main character is a lawyer, she was betrayed in law school by Dax, the other main character. Now, 5 years later Dax’s parents die and she had to help with his younger sisters trust fund. Things I loved: cute romance, main characters were lawyers, made me laugh Things I didn’t love: I predicted the twist, felt longer than necessary, the ending was really cheesy I enjoyed this book, but I didn’t absolutely love it. Aaaahhh. I'm a quarter the way into this book and I want to like it more. I so want that zing of excitement I used to get from these witty, fun-loving, trope-following romances. But I'm not zinging yet! The trope is enemies to lovers. Kailyn is a cut-throat trust lawyer - or at least that's what she's trying to be. Daxton is a lawyer too, entertainment law. They knew other in college, as great competitors, Kailyn holds a grudge due to Daxton pulling a swifty (there must be a more gracious way to put that) on her at the end of college such that he came first and she came second. There's no sign of that man when she meets him 4 years later when he needs her lawyerly skills. But Kailyn is suspicious, hence the enemies to ... Can I say that narrator Teddy Hamilton is wasted here?! I don't think I've heard Holly Warren before. I think she is doing a good job, but not making Kailyn any more likeable - intentionally I suspect. The first quarter of this was fun, but it ended up feeling quite contrived. Kailyn as a person had no flaws and it was kind of annoying. The conflicts were super obvious and didn't really cause me much emotion. It wrapped up way too neatly and didn't feel like it showed any of the reality of actual life despite the tragic setting. I wanted more meat to this. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML:The New York Times bestselling author of Pucked and The Good Luck Charm delivers a Hollywood happily-ever-after where a famous heartthrob falls for his ultimate fangirl. "As charming as its title, but it's also so much more... Fans of Jasmine Guillory's The Wedding Date and Helen Hoang's The Kiss Quotient will love Meet Cute." â??The Washington Independent Review of Books Kailyn Flowers was always calm, rational, and controlledâ??until she ended up sprawled all over Daxton Hughes, the former actor she totally crushed on as a teenager. Then she did the unthinkable: She became a mortifying fangirl in five seconds flat, which may or may not have included professing her undying love. And oddly, he didn't run away. In fact, their meet cute led to a friendship she never saw coming. Of course, she never saw his betrayal coming, either... Now Dax needs her help. As guardian to his thirteen-year-old sister, he's in way over his head. And though Kailyn hasn't forgiven Dax, she isn't heartless enough to make him fend for himself, either. Soon their friendly meetings turn into flirty dinner dates, and Kailyn can feel their chemistry is as explosive as ever. But how can she possibly let down her guard again to a guy who has heartbreak written all over him?
