Why did it have to end?

What an amazing series! Great surprise at the end. I hope we get to read more stories about the survivors. I love that both series have the strong female protagonist. Kept me hooked the whole time! ( )

Final entry in The City Trilogy. Lots of zombie action and mayhem. ( )

I loved the End of the World series and I couldn't put the first two books in this one down, but I'm really finding this final book a letdown. Characters aren't making decisions that make sense and suit their character, they're doing stupid things to serve the plot. The plot twists are a 180 from everything we've understood about a situation previously. I agree with another reviewer that too much time is spent detailing everyone's smoking habits. There's a lot more tropes (e.g., buttons flying off during sex), and Sylvie is no longer a quirky, flawed and unique character - she's evolved into a generic heroine whom everyone loves.

The author is very talented and I'm still enjoying the book but it's not as enjoyable as the beginning of the series. ( )

This book was absolutely fantastic! Less than a year ago, I picked up the first book in Sarah Lyons Fleming's Until the End of the World Series and had finished everything that I could find with her name on it just a few months later including the first two books in The City Series. Since then, I have regularly checked to see if I could figure out when the next book would be available. I had planned to wait just a little longer for the audio to be released to enjoy this story. I didn't stick with the plan. I downloaded this book just as soon as I saw that it was available and found myself reading it every chance I could find. I went into this book with some really high expectations and I can now say that all of them were met. This is one of those stories that remind me how great it is to completely lose yourself in a story.

This book picks up shortly after the events of the previous book. Things were not going well for Sylvie, Eric, and the rest of the gang and that is saying it mildly. They are trying to pick up the pieces and move on because there really aren't any other options. Things are different and they must learn to adapt to a new environment and way of living but it is proving to be a difficult adjustment.

This series has some absolutely fantastic characters. I feel like I really know each of these people and honestly care about them. I was angry when they were angry, scared when they were scared, and experienced joy right along with them. These characters are not perfect and each one of them does something they probably shouldn't have during the course of the story but those flaws only made them feel more authentic. They are not perfect but are doing the best that they can manage in an impossible situation.

This book had everything that I was looking for when I picked it up. There were a lot of really exciting scenes that kept the momentum moving forward. There were some pretty impressive twists that took me completely by surprise. There were times that I felt like my heart was broken into a million tiny pieces and I wanted to cry along with the characters. I enjoyed all of the zombie scenes and found the descriptions of everything that went into basic survival to be incredibly interesting. There are quite a few touching and hopeful scenes that worked to keep the tone positive overall.

I would highly recommend this series to others. As soon as I finished this book, I wanted to go back to the beginning of the trilogy and start all over. I do still plan to get my hands on the audio as soon as it is available so that I can experience it that was as well. This was a rather long book with over 900 pages but I didn't want it to end and I don't think a single page was wasted. I can't wait to read more from Sarah Lyons Fleming. ( )
