I enjoyed the storyline. Seemed completely unrealistic, but enjoyable none the less. ( ) Theme Music is part Amityville Horror, part The Haunting of Hill House. Dixie was just a baby when her father unalived her entire family. 25 years later she sees her childhood home for sale and purchases it thinking she'll finally get the closure she needs... This was an incredibly well-written debut! It's a slow-paced character-driven story, and I found it impossible to put down. It's very atmospheric; there were quite a few times that I felt on edge, I was absolutely terrified to find out what happened next. All of the characters were fleshed out really well and I loved that it was in Dixie's POV, since it's written in a way that you can see what's happening inside of her head that's making her question her sanity. I highly, highly recommend checking this one out and I can't wait to read more from the author! Alright so much like the summary of this book it was incredibly long. Like it felt like I was reading for ages… and just when I would be like oh yeah I have to be about done… nope. More pages. A lot of times there were just too many words and sentences that ran on. I got confused frequently about what was happening because of this and had to go back and read a part again. However, holy freaking crap. This book like delivers on the creepy element from page one! It’s got murder, it’s got ghosts, a haunted house and a main character who is literally unhinged. I have to admit I spent a lot of this book wondering if I was the one going crazy or not. Like the main character is just so chill about all the things that take place and like you know it’s not normal to do that. I think the book had a really good premise and without giving away any spoilers I kind of wish that it had gone a different way with the spooky murder element. However, I think the book throws a couple plot twists in that keep the story moving along nicely. Some of them really catch you off guard. I cannot tell you the number of times this book had me wondering if I was the one who was insane. Like sis is legit crazy in this book and I think that makes it so much better. It adds this amazing element because she is so unreliable and you do not know what to trust or what to believe like at all ever. So if you like your female main characters crazy.... This is one of a few books that I think is perfect for spooky season if you like hauntings and ghost stories! geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
For the lucky among us, life is what you make of it, but for Dixie Wheeler, the theme music for her story was chosen by another long ago, on the day her father butchered her mother and brothers and then slashed a knife across his own throat. Only one-year-old Dixie was left alive, infamously known as Baby Blue for the song left playing in the aftermath of the slaughter. Twenty-five years later, Dixie is still desperate for a connection to the family she can't remember, so when her childhood home goes up for sale, Dixie sets aside all reason and moves in, re-creating a macabre decor with her family's salvaged furniture. But as the ghosts of her family seemingly begin to take up residence in the home that was once theirs, Dixie starts to question her own sanity and wonders if the evil force menacing her is that of her father, or a demon of her own making. In order to make sense of her present, Dixie becomes determined to unravel the truth of her past and seeks out the detective who originally investigated the murders. But the more she learns, the more she opens up the uncomfortable possibility that the sins of her father may belong to another, and, perhaps most tragically, to Dixie herself. As bodies begin to pile up around her, Dixie must find a way to expose the lunacy behind her family's massacre and redeem what little remains of her soul. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
