The story of this book is similar to a certain fairytale: a boy finds a frog who claims to be royalty and demands a kiss to break the spell. This book is a good example of a chapter book for intermediate readers. There are still a few pictures, but the book is a bit long. ( ) This book is about a young boy named Davey. One day when he is at the pond with his friend Becky, he finds a blue-eyed frog. He picks up this frog and it begins to speak. He then finds out that this frog is actually a princess, and that Davey must kiss her in order for her to turn back into a princess. She says she has limited time before the spell takes over and she dies. Davey's parents let him keep the frog, and they continue to figure out how he is going to kiss her and turn her back into a human, and what is going to happen when she turns back into a princess. This book is a wonderful spin on the classic frog and princess story. The book teaches about friendship, trust, responsibility and consequences for actions, the differences between the sexes, the disparities between truths and appearances, and about overall discretion and fairness (making the right decisions or taking the proper action when faced with a challenge or a dilemma). Full of magic, this book tells the story of Davey who finds a talking frog named Amelia who is really a princess under a spell. Davey wants to show her off to his friends, but must decide if it's worth the consequence of her being stuck as a frog forever. Davey must learn to act responsibly, to exercise discretion, and to find compassion. In the end, he learns all about realistic choices, true friendship, trust, and loyalty. In an act of selflessness, he demonstrates a newfound maturity. Davey learns that you sometimes have to say goodbye and to set someone free if you really care about and love the person. Davey finds a talking, blue eyed frog who is a bewitched princess. The frog tells him about the evil spell her uncle put on her and that it can only be broken by a kiss. Davey wants to help her, but also wants to show off his talking frog to gain the attention of his peers. The book centers on Davey as he wrestles with doing what is right vs. his personal desire for social belonging. In the end, Davey kisses the frog and learns about responsibility and helping friends in need. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
