summary: This is the story of Gabby and her struggles through being a preteen. Gabby's mother died when she was young and she has grown up with just her dad and her brother. She feels as if she is missing out on learning how to be a woman and needs a motherly figure in her life. Gabby sees the struggles of the idea of having a new "mom" but things go haywire with her dad and his girlfriend and she doesn't understand. You go through life with Gabby and her thoughts and experiences of how she deals with life events.

classroom connection: This could be used if there are students with single parents for them to see that many children feel that way despite the reason their parents are single. They can see that it's a struggle for everyone. Also students with parents who are not single can get an inside view of what their peers may be going through.

What Every Girl (except me) Knows, is about a girl named Gabby whose mother died when she was little. She wishes now more than ever that she had a mother. A mom to talk to in her times of need or help. Gabby even has a journal where she writes all these different things on what a mother should be like. Her dad is also going out with someone and she doesnt know if thats who she wants to be her new mother.

This book is a pretty good book. It is sad at times because you know it would be really hard if you didn't have a mother to help you out. And you know not everything you can talk to your dad about. So in this book i really start to feel bad for her. Then it really makes me think about what it would be like if i didn't have a mother. All in all its a good book to read.

This book is especially good for girls because it might tell you things you might not know. Truthfully when she talks about her school i can totally relate. ( )
