Stories such as Eileen Belia working for the "missus" in the "big" house, and Toby Pitjara's sadness at the erosion of cultural traditions show the determination of Aboriginal people to breathe new life into their culture, through the preservation of their oral traditions.

Stephen Davis is a political geographer who has lived in the remote areas of Australia in order to work with Aboriginal people and to document their culture. He is the author of two other popular books on Aboriginal culture, "Man of All Seasons" and "Kakadu Man".
