When falling asleep in an antique shop, the heroine wakes up to screams and realizes she's back in time during the civil war. She finds herself in a makeshift hospital with absolutely no time to think about what's happened to her as so many dying men need her medical help. There she meets the hero, the doctor who lost his father and wife by murder and lives each day tormented by the fact that he doesn't have enough medicine to ease the suffering of his patience. That night, the heroine and hero find themselves both in the same bed, much by accident but it forces them to marry. They start out as less than trusting of each other but cordial. They vow to keep their marriage a one in name only and for the most part they are able to do so. But soon feelings start to creep in. The heroine has brought back a miracle in the form of her advanced medical knowledge and instead of feeling threatened by this woman who knows more than him, the hero is eager to learn. I loved that about him. He's so far from a chauvinistic man and genuinely cares for his patience. He comes to respect the woman he calls wife because she really truly cares about the soldiers she treat as well, and it's comforting to have a capable hand on deck. But the heroine knows she's been forced back in time for a purpose. She strikes a deal with the woman who's responsible. She'll supply particular objects that the woman can later sell in her shop and in return she'll receive the medicine that the hospital desperately needs. Soon the hero becomes suspicious of where all this medicine came from and she's forced to tell him the truth. I really liked this story. The hero is such a lovely, understanding man yet he finds it hard to trust people and he can't believe the tales the heroine tells him for some time. The heroine is great. I loved the fact that she's a decent nurse, capable in a bind yet it's clear that she's still learning and if given the chance will become an amazing doctor. The civil war setting is always interesting and the chemistry between the two characters in genuine and real. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
