I like this series. Elisa is a great heroine. She is rational and smart and never wanders into tstl territory. Connor isn't overly arrogant and ĂĽber alpha gross. ( )

A good read. Only second book in this spinoff series and not quite the *ooomph* of Chicagoland Vampires. But, I like the characters and even the budding romance. Passion but not losing their heads and forgetting all about the dangers and the politics. I think more politics and characters got added rather than resolving current situations or I'd like it better. It was nice that she was introduced to more of Connor's pack. Best review of this is that I will be continuing the series. ( )

I was a big fan of the Chicagoland Vampires series, but wasn’t quite so sure about the spin-off until I finished the first book (which started slow). Then I was hooked. Wicked Hour was even better than the first book combining a group of established friends from the first book with a great setting, snarky dialog, and an interesting mystery. What is the mysterious beast in the north woods of Minnesota?

The two main characters of this series are a vampire and a werewolf in love with each other, so I expected the inevitable conflict between species to be one the author might milk for at least a couple of books. So imagine my glee when she didn’t take that trope-tastic route but instead had her two main characters act like rational adults.

Where the author did skirt the line was the amount of animosity Lis was up against from the werewolf clan. At times it felt too manufactured to be believed, although towards the end the author made it work by turning it inward and making it about something larger than Lis’s vampirism.

All up it was an excellent sophomore entry in a promising new series I look forward to continuing. ( )

This book starts off by answering the question of what happened after the events of the last book. Faithful readers will remember that Elisa Sullivan was left stranded in Chicago by the vampires of Maison Dumas when things got all murder-y at the peace talks. Following that, Elisa was essentially let go from her job with them and got one working for the Ombudsman office in Chicago. Elisa and Connor Keene shared a spicy (and confusing) kiss after saving everyone from the evil fairies, and it seems like they’re stayed in touch while they went about their respective businesses, Elisa in Chicago, and Connor in the Midwest. In the previous book, Lulu Bell was working on a mural at the North American Central Pack headquarters, and when this book opens, it’s the unveiling night.

Connor and Elisa team up again to check out a pack in Minnesota. I loved seeing their relationship starting to unfold even if I wouldn't mind it moving a bit faster. I enjoy both of these characters and I like that Elisa is finding her way with her inner beast.

While visiting for an initiation ceremony they uncover murder and huge problems within the pack that they have to solve.

A light entertaining paranormal read.
