Nicely creepy in a paranoid Pynchon sort of way. A total page-turner. But the ending let me down. Grumble. ( ) Well, that was creepy. I must say that it didn't click with me as much as Survivor and Fight Club did, but I still loved it. It's a page-turner, and the ending was... just great. I love a book that doesn't leave you disappointed. However, I gave it 3 stars because it seemed like an average book up until the last 50 pages. I don't think that people who aren't especially fans of Chuck Palahniuk would love it. Oh what the heck. 3.5 stars. I didn't.............enjoy this. I think there's probably some learning curve with his writing style that is gonna take me some getting used to. This was an interesting premise that could have been fleshed out in a much better way. Maybe if it wasn't an epistolary work, maybe if it wasn't a faux-this-is-a-true-story-it-was-sent-to-my-PO-box!!! work, maybe if I was a straight dude. I really don't know but something about this could have been better. So a star for an interesting idea and ABSOLUTELY the MOST IMPORTANT STAR OF ALL- reminding me why I don't date Art Boys(TM) This is the first book I've ever written a review for. And I felt as if it was needed. I'm a big Palahniuk fan, and I pushed myself to finish this book. The story seemed to drag along and was not nearly engaging as many of his other works. His quirky writing style I love is in full force, but I could not get behind the story. The only reason I did not rate it a one star is because that is solely for books I cannot finish. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Misty Wilmot has had it. Once a promising young artist, she's now stuck on an island ruined by tourism, drinking too much and working as a waitress in a hotel. Her husband, a contractor, is in a coma after a suicide attempt, but that doesn't stop his clients from threatening Misty with lawsuits over a series of vile messages they've found on the walls of houses he remodeled. Suddenly, though, Misty finds her artistic talent returning as she begins a period of compulsive painting. Inspired but confused by this burst of creativity, she soon finds herself a pawn in a larger conspiracy that threatens to cost hundreds of lives. What unfolds is a dark, hilarious story from America's most inventive nihilist, and Palahniuk's most impressive work to date. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
