Excerpt from My Trip Abroad As soon as the drinkers have finished their morning draughts the young girls retire and their places are filled by women in black, and also men, who work day and night in bottling the water for exportation. There are about a dozen of these springs in the two-mile section, and they all seem to be alike except as to temperature. Rich and poor come here for relief and the city spares no expense in keeping the streets and public buildings clean and attractive. We have to pay about $15 as a tax for sup porting the bands of music and bathhouses, although each bath is also charged for at eighty cents. People forget here that they are sick and easily take to the routine of early rising, walking, exercise, dieting and the continued use of the saline waters.
