"Psychologist Alex Delaware and detective Milo Sturgis struggle to make sense of a seemingly inexplicable massacre in this electrifying psychological thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense. LAPD Lieutenant Milo Sturgis has solved a lot of murder cases. On many of them--the ones he calls "different"--he taps the brain of brilliant psychologist Dr. Alex Delaware. But neither Alex nor Milo are prepared for what they find on an early morning call to a deserted mansion in Bel Air. This one's beyond different. This is predation, premeditation, and cruelty on a whole new level. Four people have been slaughtered and left displayed bizarrely and horrifically in a stretch limousine. Confounding the investigation, none of the victims seems to have any connection to any other, and a variety of methods have been used to dispatch them. As Alex and Milo make their way through blind alleys and mazes baited with misdirection, they encounter a crime so vicious that it stretches the definitions of evil"--… (meer)

I have been a fan of this series for years. This particular one in the series - not so much. I love the characters, Alex. Milo, Robin and of course Blanch, the French Bulldog. I just felt this book was rushed. The blurb indicated the crime was so ‘vicious that it stretches the definition of evil’ so I was expecting to be shocked. Perhaps I’m jaded and have read a lot these last several months, but I wasn’t really shocked.

I also had problems with seeing the connection between the killers and the victims. It almost felt forced. And the last pages just seemed a way to ‘tidy’ up all the discoveries.

Overall, I still enjoy the stories and will be ready to read the next one. I do wish that Kellerman would at times give Robin a bit more of a role. Lately, she’s been a rather ‘passive’ character in the series; almost as if she’s not needed. ( )

Creepy and twisted, and what else should we expect from an Alex Delaware novel. Continues to push the envelope of fast-paced, weird and disturbing psychological thrillers.

Advanced Reader's copy provided by Edelweiss. ( )

Easy to listen to. Good detective but I find the characters just one note. ( )

Picked this up a while ago as I like both Alex Delaware and Milo Sturgis, though I'm not a devoted fan of the series. This book was okay and managed to hold my interest despite some rather farfetched leaps of imagination in the story. A posed quadruple homicide confounds our team of detectives and one psychologist; Milo gets a lot of help from some younger detectives in this one. There are some odd but interesting characters such as a gifted but weird teenager (who I'm guessing will appear in some future book). The story jumped the shark a bit at the end but it's a quick read, good for airplane ride or the beach. ( )
