From Kirkus: "Simple language complements complex paintings to create the perfect literary melody." This book would be good for primary students. This book is "Double Bass Blues" written by Andrea J. Loney, illustrated by Rudy Gutierrez, and published in 2019. This book is about a student who is traveling to go see his grandaddy Nic who is in a jazz band and he is goin got play with him. On his way, he is bullied by how big the bass is compared to him and nobody understand it, but when he gets to his grandad all of his worries disappear when he starts to play. This book would be good for new readers as there are very minimal words and the pictures truly tell the real story. I think this would be good to teach kids about the history of jazz a little bit and how you can be passionate about things that you care about even if others don't understand. My favorite element of this book is the sound. The sound of the rain. The sound of transportation. The sound of a bass. It is great way to teach children the symphony of sound and how there are words used to describe the sounds. This book won a Caldecott Honor--indeed, the illustrations help tell the tale. They have to as there are not many words contained in the pages. I found the artwork vibrant and engaging. I wonder what children think..... geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
