From #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn comes this irresistible treat, a charming and jaunty graphic novel, based on story snippets peppered throughout a number of her books. Originally mentioned in It's in His Kissâ??one of the Bridgerton novels which inspired the smash Netflix series Bridgertonâ??Miss Butterworth and the Mad Baron is finally told here in its entirety for the first time.

A madcap romantic adventure, Miss Butterworth and the Mad Baron has appeared in several Julia Quinn novels and enthralled some of her most beloved characters. Now this delicious tale of love and peril is available for everyone to enjoy in this wonderfully unconventional graphic novel.

Born into a happy family that is tragically ravaged by smallpox, Miss Priscilla Butterworth uses her wits to survive a series of outlandish trials. Cruelly separated from her beloved mother and grandmother, the young girl is sent to live with a callous aunt who forces her to work for her keep. Eventually, the clever and tenderhearted Miss Butterworth makes her escape . . . a daring journey into the unknown that unexpectedly leads her to the "mad" baron and a lifetime of love.

Delightfully illustrated by Violet Charles, told in Julia Quinn's playful voice, Miss Butterworth and the Mad Baron is a high-spirited nineteenth-century romp that will entertain and enchant modern readers.

I hate gothic novels so this was like catnip to me. So ridiculously over the top it was so much fun. The illustrations are beautiful and it's utterly tragic the artist didn't live to see this published. ( )

I know it's based off a goofy book casually mentioned in the Bridgerton series, and that's well and good... However I didn't especially like the art style and the demonic pigeons were a bit much for me. I know that this was a labor of love, especially considering the personal tragedy that Julia Quinn suffered, but it just wasn't a book that I'd read again or recommend, even to Bridgerton fans. ( )

A cute story that uses a variety of romance tropes with fun imagery.

I loved this graphic novel! I have never read anything by Julia Quinn before, though I've seen her books enough. I've definitely heard of Bridgerton and was told that since I loved Downton Abbey, I'd love that too. So it's on my to watch list.

That being said, I could not stop laughing or reading! Miss Butterworth is a new favorite heroine of mine and I'd love to see more like this. This quick read graphic novel has her overcoming a lot of tragic death at a young age and forging a path to the future. Both Pricilla and Damien have tragic stories and you find yourself rooting for a happily ever after for these two characters! ( )

I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher (Avon Books) for promotional purposes.

Let me preface this review by saying that I am not familiar with Miss Butterworth. I’ve only read 1 Julia Quinn book (The Duke and I) and have seen both seasons of Bridgerton. I enjoyed both the book and the show. However, neither of those reference Miss Butterworth. Because of that, I did not know what to expect in regards to this story. Initially, I had thought it would be more Bridgerton-like.

This was a very absurd graphic novel. It was sort of insane, but that was the point. The story was a little gruesome/morbid at times, which I was not expecting. I found the whole story to be a bit strange and I didn’t necessarily love it (nor did I completely hate it). It was just okay for me. I probably would have liked it better if I was more familiar with Miss Butterworth.

The art style is very cute and cartoon like and worked well for the story. Like I said the book was a little morbid at times, but the art kept it more humorous and light.

I did love the “In Memoriam” at the end. In case you didn’t know, the illustrator, Violet Charles, was Julia Quinn’s younger sister who tragically passed away in 2021. Julia wrote a beautiful tribute to her sister and I am glad that this collaboration between them was able to be published.

Overall, if you know more about Miss Butterworth from Julia Quinn’s other books, you’ll probably enjoy this one! ( )
