Shuri is a genius when it comes to technology, and deserves a lot more credit than her mom and big brother (who happens to be the Black Panther and King of Wakanda) give her credit for. Shuri manages to get away from her mother's grip long enough to sneak out of the country, test out her invisible flying panther mobile, and save Wakanda while she's at it. This novel is fun, fast paced, and you don't have to be familiar with other Black Panther comics or the movie to enjoy it! ( ) I preordered this long before release and didn’t realize it was a middle-grade novel until I received it. I’m in my forties, so my five stars are based on the target age group, not an adult audience. Like nearly all of the Marvel novels, this one has a popular character from the MCU, but is firmly set in the Marvel Universe, not the film one. Here, T’Challa has been King and Black Panther for a while. Shuri is much younger, but still a scientific genius. A genius who chafes from the restrictions placed on her as a Princess and from being treated as a child by the Queen Mother and T’Challa. She is instantly relatable to tweens, and also a good role model with her curiosity, love for family and love of science. As an adult I found the first half slow as Shuri struggles to be taken seriously by the adults, and the ending was rushed. I didn’t deduct any stars because this is still is a fun adventure story. Shuri investigates why the heart-shaped herb is suddenly dying, uncovers a plot against Wakanda and forms a bond with her Dora Milaje-in-training K’Marah. Along the way, she visits with a certain famous mutant “goddess” from Kenya and created a new Panther suit for her brother. Shuri is a great protagonist (and role model) that I hope gets more adventures. Highly recommended. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML: An original, upper-middle-grade series starring the break-out character from the Black Panther comics and films: T'Challa's younger sister, Shuri! Crafted by New York Times bestselling author Nic Stone. Shuri is a skilled martial artist, a genius, and a master of science and technology. But, she's also a teenager. And a princess. This middle-grade series follows Shuri as she sets out on a quest to save her homeland of Wakanda. For centuries, the Chieftain of Wakana (the Black Panther) has gained his powers through the juices of the Heart Shaped Herb. Indeed, even Shuri herself has gained powers from this mythical herb, which grows only in Wakanda. Much like Vibranium, the Heart Shaped Herb is essential to the survival and prosperity of Wakanda. But something is wrong. The plants are no longer growing. No matter what the people of Wakanda do, they can't create new herbs. And their supply is running short. It's up to Shuri to travel from Wakanda in order to discover what is killing the Herb, and how she can save it, in this all-new, original series. .Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
