This middle grade historical fiction by Gordon Korman follows Trevor and his father and great-grandfather as they visit sites of WWII battles. Young Trevor is on a trip across Europe with his 93-year-old great grandfather, Jacob. Jacob is a WWII vet who Trevor has always idolized for his heroic efforts to defeat Hitler.

Enjoyed this, even though it didn't read like a traditional Korman book. The book moves back and forth through time and I found I enjoyed reading the WWII scenes as opposed to the modern time line. I also felt that the ending was a little flat and felt forced. Good read for students interested in WWII or those who don't know much about WWII. Portrays the battles realistically without being too graphic for younger readers and gives the a lot of good information about the Normandy invasion and the day-today experiences of WWII American soldiers through Jacob's reminiscing about his training and time as a solider. Perfect read for Veterans Day for 10 year for those who are fascinated with WWII history and WWII video games. Great story. Great writing. ( )
