A boy goes outside to play when he finds a strange dark spot that won't stop following him. He can't get rid of it no matter what he does. When the boy figures out what a shadow is and that he can make shadows, he teaches his friends about shadows. I really enjoyed this book because it was very relatable to children in the way that they go outside to play and see shadows all around. This book helps children easily understand what shadows are and where they come from. I would use this book as a lesson on shadows. I would read the beginning of the book, allow the kids to go outside and make their own shadows and then use an anchor chart to ask the students about where they think shadows come from. Then I would read the second half of the book to the students. ( )
The Day I Met My Shadow is a great book to introduce children to how shadows form with the positioning of the sun. It defines the definition of a shadow and shows how your shadow can grow or shrink depending on the sun. I'd recommend this book to grades K-5. It's an easy book to follow for the children.
