This was a very well written story and I loved the duel mystery! I think the narration was a bit too slow, but once I sped it up, it flowed much better. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. ( ) Thank you to NetGalley for the ebook. Rachel Krall is a trial-related podcast host on her way to the small town of Neapolis, NC to record her next podcast – a rape trial where a young potential Olympic swimmer is accused of rape. On Rachel’s way there, she gets a mysterious letter from Hannah who has written to Rachel before requesting Rachel look into her sister’s murder in Neapolis 25 years earlier. Once in Neapolis, Rachel keeps getting these letters – in her hotel, on her windshield – but has yet to see and/or meet Hannah. Through these letters, Hannah tells her the story of what happened to her sister. The book alternates between Rachel looking into Hannah’s story and being in the courtroom for the trial. I really enjoyed The Escape Room and this one didn’t disappoint, either. I think this was soild thiller it was a story that had two soild plotlines and i think i was more invested in the mystry then then court case about the rape case but i loved the pocast elements. it was was really quick read i liked the characters and this book was def a toughter read beacuse it dealt with harder topics and that could be triggering but a a very quick read!! def am excited for book 2 in this series!! I listened to this audiobook and enjoyed the story and appreciate the research the author must have done to tackle this sensitive subject. Told from Rachel's POV, a woman who hosts a true crime podcast, and Hannah, a woman in her 30s hoping to convince Rachel to resurrect what really happened to Hannah's sister a quarter century ago. I really enjoyed Rachel's POV chapters, and although I thought the beginning was a little slow, I also understand it was laying out information that would play out later in the story. The subject of rape is difficult enough to talk about in real life, and I think it would be even harder to write about and dig in past the "he said she said" perspective. The best thing about the story is it kept me guessing as to who was behind Hannah's sister's death right to the end. If you can handle the subject, I think you'll enjoy this layered suspense story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of this book. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

"In The Night Swim, a new thriller from Megan Goldin, author of the "gripping and unforgettable" (Harlen Coben) The Escape Room, a true crime podcast host covering a controversial trial finds herself drawn deep into a small town's dark past and a brutal crime that took place there years before. After the first season of her true crime podcast became an overnight sensation and set an innocent man free, Rachel Krall is now a household name-and the last hope for thousands of people seeking justice. But she's used to being recognized for her voice, not her face. Which makes it all the more unsettling when she finds a note on her car windshield, addressed to her, begging for help. The small town of Neapolis is being torn apart by a devastating rape trial. The town's golden boy, a swimmer destined for Olympic greatness, has been accused of raping a high school student, the beloved granddaughter of the police chief. Under pressure to make Season Three a success, Rachel throws herself into interviewing and investigating-but the mysterious letters keep showing up in unexpected places. Someone is following her, and she won't stop until Rachel finds out what happened to her sister twenty-five years ago. Officially, Jenny Stills tragically drowned, but the letters insists she was murdered-and when Rachel starts asking questions, nobody seems to want to answer. The past and present start to collide as Rachel uncovers startling connections between the two cases that will change the course of the trial and the lives of everyone involved. Electrifying and propulsive, The Night Swim asks: What is the price of a reputation? Can a small town ever right the wrongs of its past? And what really happened to Jenny?"-- Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
