Includes “Chronology of Civil Rights Movement. This is a biography of Dr. Martin Luther King and most notably his involvement in the civil rights movement. Dr. King was instrumental in achieving equal rights for colored people. His focus was always on non violent protests. This book also does an excellent job at detailing the struggles Dr. King faced as he fought for the rights of ALL people. It was never an easy battle for him, but he never gave up. This text-heavy picturebook biography of Martin Luther King, Jr. opens and closes in the fateful year of 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. This biography focuses on the civil rights movement actions and years of King's life, as evidenced by the fact that his birth in 1929 shares the page with the need for action as a result of the repercussions of Rosa Parks' refusal to give up her bus seat in 1955. King's nonviolent means of protest are highlighted, as are various key events in the civil rights movement, such as the Montgomery boycott, the March on Washington where King made his famous "I Have a Dream" speech, the Birmingham bombing, and ultimately King's assassination. The book closes with a chronology of the civil rights movement. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Book, I’ve Seen The Promised Lands gives an insight into his life as he fought for equality. This was a well-organized biography with several facts. Dr. King was a great man who believed in nonviolent social justice. His greatness and courage led him to lead African Americans in their fight for equality through peaceful protest during one of the horrific times of history. Dr. King had no doubt that as a nation, the people will overcome racial discrimination. His words are still alive today, he received the proper recognition as a civil rights activist. This book was just a reassurance to me because I already knew the facts upon Dr. King’s life. I did enjoy this book and would recommend this book to children as they are learning about African American history. Martin Luther King's life is a well popular and influenced topic in American Culture. This book dove in head first into his life. From young adulthood to beyond his death. For someone who doesn't know much about MLK this is a good book to get quick facts and some deep findings of who he was and what he stood for.
