I don't understand why everyone likes this story so much; the characters all sound like Muppets, like, I could literally see Bunsen and Beaker playing the main characters. Even the monster gets a say in this story.
"And this is what he said: 'YOU FOOL, WARREN IS DEAD!'"

All in all, read this story if you want a good laugh. ( )

First swamp story in the collection. Let it be known that grave robbing (or maybe just grave disturbing?) mysterious indecipherable books from Arabia and India = bad idea. This one actually works, largely because of the tension provided by the improbable introduction of the telephone to the plot. (Lovecraft probably could have done wonders with cellphones, horror-wise.) Also, the nameless terror at least talks, so that helps. 3*

It didn't leave much of an impression on me, but it was good enough to read. Short and sweet I guess. ( )
