Stephanie and Grandma Mazur are still looking for Jimmy Rosolli's treasure. They have the two keys and a couple of the clues, but they will need more if they are going to find the treasure. Stephanie is still suffering from her life crisis, and to top it off, accidentally gets a makeover. Also, while Stephanie and Morelli are on the outs, her relationship with Ranger heats up, but Stephanie is feeling some jealousy when Morelli shows some interest in a woman named Gabriela that also seems to be after the Rosolli treasure and has much better skills than Stephanie.

Fortune and Glory - Tantalizing Twenty-Seven veers a little off of the Stephanie Plum novel formula, making the skips that Stephanie is looking for less a part of the mystery than the Rosolli treasure that she has been looking for in the last two books. Also, the humor that is usually such a big part of these books and makes them so enjoyable is there but is somewhat muted in this story. Even though Stephanie's on and off relationship with Ranger heats up in this story, we really don't get any more about him or his life. Overall, Fortune and Glory - Tantalizing Twenty-Seven is slightly disappointing but is still a quick read that provides enjoyment. 3 1/2 Stars. ( )

Pains me to give a book in this series only 3 stars. Stephanie and the gang are my guilty pleasure, and I usually love the stories. This one was not as humorous as many of them are. I blame that on Grandma not being her usually hysterical self, and Stephanie wallowing in self-pity. *Sigh*

The story picks up where #26 left off, the search for Jimmy's treasure still in full motion. A lot of Ranger in this one (no complaints there) and less Morelli (I do love him too). A new character is introduced, and the teaser at the end of this one promises this character will be back. Should prove interesting.

All in all a welcome break from the non-fiction I have been gobbling up. High hopes that #28 will give me more giggles. ( )

A nice return to form with a solid investment in series lot even if the character of Potts seemed to replace rather than add to Lula's voice. Mercifully without a ponytail Stephanie couldn't be forever brushing it and putting in a hair the! ( )

3.5 stars (rating shown may vary depending on whether site allows half star ratings). I've read all the Stephanie Plum By the Numbers books and I think most of the Between the Numbers books. Prior to this the By the Numbers books have always had the number in the title--this one the "Tantalizing 27" seems to be a sub-header. I'd always thought Evanovich or her publishers were smart because numbers can go on forever (unlike the alphabet series where I wondered what would happen when the author got to Z). Now, I wonder what's up with this series. Are the numbers abandoned?

This book didn't feel like an ending (as another reviewer hoped). Though it does introduce a character who it appears will have a spin-off series. I really hope that Evanovich settles the Morelli or Ranger question once and for all soon. The series would probably suffer more if Ranger isn't a part of it than if Morelli is not IMO--though I guess the police connection is helpful at times.

I did like the addition of Potts (even though he started out as annoying). As Stephanie herself notices, there's something solid underneath all that annoying behavior.

I guessed early on that the "treasure" wouldn't be what they hoped. ( )
