While the main characters are set up clearly enough, there’s a whole mess of generic men as side characters (primarily villains). It’s not always clear, especially at first, which man is in the scene or what exactly they’re doing. Some of this is certainly to build suspense, and some of this is because one of the main characters has a few issues like memory loss. However, there are also a lot of places where it wouldn’t serve the story to be vague. If the characters were described better that might take care of some of the problem. The book also uses a lot of weird scene jumps, cutting away in the middle of conversations and then jumping back into that conversation in a later flashback. Since it’s not done in a way that makes sense or builds tension, it’s just another element that makes this story kind of a mess. The characters didn’t really stand out, either. The two leads (former spouses) spend far too much time thinking about each other in vague, repetitive ways. The woman, who does taekwondo, leans very heavily into this and spends many scenes thinking about fighting people, which makes it come across as more of a gimmick than a feature that would round out her character.Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. I received this book from Librarything Early Member Giveaway for an honest review. This is my own opinion. I found that this book was the third in a series. So I was completely confused with the characters and what was going on with the plot of the story. It was okay. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. Dream Within A Dream (Coffey & Hill) By: Nappa REVIEW ☆☆☆☆ Dream Within A Dream is my first read of the series, so I didn't know what to expect. Fortunately, I found the story intriguing and mysterious from the start. I was confused here and there, but I had no serious problems reading this book as a standalone. It's a fascinating concept unique from other books. Overall, I liked and would recommend Dream Within A Dream. https://audrasbookblabbing.wordpress.com/2020/07/13/a-dream-within-a-dream-book-... Topics to consider: murder, kidnapping, PTSD, torture, and death. A Dream Within a Dream is an intense suspense novel about a man with PTSD, the CIA, FBI, (and as the main character would say, "the rest of the alphabet, too"), chases, heists, terrorists, and so much more. It's technically the third book in the Coffey & Hill series, but I read it as a stand-alone, and it wasn't lacking. This book is actually pretty confusing in certain places. I found that aspect exciting, though, because it is often quite difficult to keep the reader in the dark about what is going on. There are so many twists, turns, and things to discover! I truly didn't want to put it down. Another aspect I really enjoyed is the style of chapters. Each chapter is written from a different person's points of view, but the titles of the chapters tell you whose point of view you are reading. The perspective of The Dream is probably the most captivating to read. Also, the book is divided into sections based on the date. It is all done chronologically and in a very organized manner. So many things happened in such a sort time! The worst part of this book to me is probably the last few chapters. Unlike the rest of the book, the pacing is a little too fast and ultimately I never quite understood what exactly happened. If you want a book with good mystery, suspense, woman-power, secrets, and excitement, this just may be the book for you! Carve out a few hours in your day, though, because you'll want to finish it all at once. ~I was sent a free copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review~ geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

So, I liked this one a lot. It was difficult to put down and the mystery wrapped up well without loose ends. The book was not too complicated and it was easy enough to follow -- except for the perspective of Dream. Dream is suffering from PTSD and his chapters show his confusion and memory situations quite well. It never made perfect sense, but I don't believe that it was meant to.
Trudi was a good character to get to know. She had a never-give-up attitude that served her well.
The ending was different. I am wondering why it happened the way it did, as there was no reasons explained.
If you are looking for a suspense that will keep you on your toes, A Dream Within a Dream will certainly keep you happy.
