"To save her kingdom, a simple village girl must live a royal lie. The powerful kingdom of Sigurd has slowly been conquering all the lands that share its borders, and now it has turned its voracious attention to the small, resource-rich Tyr. Tyr cannot hope to match Sigurd in strength, so in order to survive, it must rely on the intelligence, skill and cunning of its prince and his loyal knights. But should their prince fall, so too shall Tyr... Freya thinks of herself as a simple village girl, but her idyllic life is shattered when she is caught up in the aftermath of a treacherous Sigurdian plot. She bears a striking resemblance to her country's beloved Prince Edvard, who lays dying from poison. Without its ruler, all of Tyr will quickly be engulfed by Sigurdian violence. Now Freya must take Prince Edvard's place and lead his valiant knights in defending the realm!"--Provided by publisher.… (meer)

A solid start to the series, and engaging enough that I’ll definitely keep reading on, but there was anything that REALLY stood out to me. I like the overall concept, just a little bored by all the macho-y dude knights swaggering around and swearing their undying commitment. The ending promises a bigger adventure and I hope that turns the plot into something more exciting. ( )

Pacing is very fast, almost concerningly so, but an unexpected twist kept my attention. Julius seems interesting. I like Alek with his determination and second lead-ness, but his brother Aaron could come off creepy, real “I’m a nice guy” vibes. Freya cries a lot, but she changes into the prince persona like a charm. I don’t believe she’s that good of an actor, so it feels so out of character for her to look confident so easily.

Very little is explained here, so the worldbuilding feels nonexistent. Because it's the first volume, I'm going to let the jerky pace and the lack of strong character personality (i.e, flatness) slide. I don’t know about this series, but I’ll read volume 2. ( )

This has got to be one of the weirdest “Prince and the Pauper” style stories I’ve come across. I think I’ll be wondering about Alek’s throwaway explanation that Freya “has good eyesight from growing up in the mountains” for a while. Seems interesting enough to keep going at this point. ( )

This is very much a first volume of a series, in that it's mostly setting up the story for future action. That being said, it did pique my interest. I love a good mistaken/disguised identity story and this delivers a very promising beginning. It sets up some good character dynamics and I'm interested to see where the story goes from here. I also can't wait to see how Freya grows into her new role as prince. I'll probably pick up the second volume when it comes out, so, this definitely accomplished its goal of getting me curious.

Would recommend for anyone interested in s shoujo romance manga with an action twist and hidden/mistaken identities. ( )

Great start to a new medieval adventure. When war threatens, Freya's life in a reclusive village is turned upside down. Thrust into the role of Prince Edvard, Freya must learn to be the hero her country needs - to protect the kingdom and the ones she loves. While Freya struggles to become a prince she hardly knew, her brother Alec grapples with their eldest brother's legacy, and the prince's knights figure out their role with this changed prince. And of course there's the burning question: why does Freya look so much like the prince?

The first chapter is a roller-coaster of emotion, and I found myself very attached these characters I'd just met. All of the prince's knights, the conniving nobles, the bandit attacks, I love it all so much, and I'm so ready for more.

Strongly recommend to fans of The Legend of Arslan or Yona of the Dawn.

**Big thanks to Netgalley and the author for the ARC** ( )
