The jumping around confused me a little (especially since I kept being tired when I read) but really enjoyed it and loved getting all that backstory!! ( ) "Evermeet, Island of Elves" is the history of the Elves in Forgotton Realms campaign setting from their arrival in Faerun (or possibly Toril in general) to the present day. I read it three times over in my teen and YA years and was a favourite of mine. The premise of the book is cute, and if one is familiar with the Forgotten Realms setting and Elaine Cunningham's other books, then there will be many familiar names. The premise of the book is that a human is writing a book on the history of elves as a gift for his half-elf fiance, among other things. Through letters he consults with scholars and such and the history is related alongside. This makes the book somewhat of a task to read as there are at least three different narratives going on at any given time: the letters detailing Danilo's (yup, him) research correspondence; the actual history from gods to people; and the events going on in present day, which tie in with the letters. The book can be look at as an origin story in Forgotten Realms lore, but is also enjoyable even if you aren't familiar with the setting. It was the first Cunningham book I read and I narration was delightful to me, and a nice break from Salvatore who I was more or less dedicated to at the time. It's a long read but one I did enjoy, and has stuck with me ever since. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
