Magellan, by Tim Joyner (read 14 Jul 2022) This a carefully researched biography of Ferdinand Magellan, who was born in Portugal between 1470 and 1480 and died in 1521 while fighting on behalf of an ally in the Philippines. The account of the trials he and his men went through are gruesome indeed and seem almost unendurable. But some 21 of the crew which left Spain Sept 21, 1519, returned to Spain on Sep 6, 1521, being the first humans to have sailed around the earth. The account of the fierce sufferings they went through are mind-boggling. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
