Project Hero is a really sweet story, and a perfect comfort-read. It took me some time to get into it, because I’m not a fan of the ‘pining for the wrong guy’ trope, but Andy was so freaking adorable and nerdy that I just had to keep reading. And then it got so much better! Andy and Law had great chemistry. They made such a lovely couple, and their banter was hilarious. A very enjoyable read despite all the clichés. ( ) I kind of liked this very predictable but sweet relationship. The fact that Law has a health condition that turns him from player to coach, without causing him to wallow in self-pity, is part of the story's charm. And the chapters inside Andy's head are just plain funny and clearly inspired by Big Bang type humor - without all the embarassing fails. Andy is determined to win over his best friend, Falcon, and prove to him that he can be something more than just his little brother. Unfortunately, things rarely work out for Andy and finding the ambition to move forward with his "Project Hero" seems impossible. Enter Law, former hockey player extraordinaire turned assistant coach for the university. Law needs a tutor in physics for his team and Andy needs a tutor in how to get Falcon to notice him romantically. It seems like a winning match until both Andy and Law realize something more than tutoring may be growing between them. When a book makes me laugh within the first couple chapters, that is really a very good thing. This was a grand coming of age YA story that I really enjoyed. I liked Andy's sarcasm (both internal and external monologues) and Law was such a sweetie. Towards the middle it seems like it might start to get a little maudlin (as romances sometimes do), but the story pulled itself short on that and quickly picked back up. I thought it was great that the author didn't portray the characters being gay as anything other than a normal thing in the eyes of their family, friends and society in general. Absolutely no angsting in that respect which was nice. There were some explicit scenes so I'm not sure that I would entirely recommend this as a teen story, but I think it does belong in the older YA category. I would certainly recommend this story for anyone looking for a light hearted, feel good and humorous tale. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
What if you accidentally fell in love with the right guy? Andy: If my life was a movie, I would be the sidekick. Not an especially promising start when my plan is to finally let my best friend know I have a crush on him. I just need a complete makeover. Change everything about myself so that when Falcon returns from his summer vacation, he can finally see I'm the love of his life. If I knew what I was doing, I wouldn't look like every nerd cliche wrapped into one awkward package. In short, I'm screwed. But then Law Anderson enters the picture . . . Law: I need somebody to tutor my hockey team, and Andy needs somebody to help him with his crush. Only the more time I spend with Andy, the more I like this quirky guy who makes me laugh, and pretty soon I'm the one who's tutoring Andy in way more than we initially agreed upon. But as weeks pass and the chemistry between us turns explosive, I'm starting to think that I might be in way over my head with Andy. If only I could make Andy realize that he doesn't need to change himself for love. If only I could make Andy see that he just needs to be with somebody who has considered him perfect all along . . . Contains mature themes. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
