This volume was very cute (especially with Komi’s lil cousin who tries to hide her feelings), and you can see actual progression in Komi’s communication skills. I’m talking whole sentences, y’all. Tadano is still a regular-degular blandboy who is kind, but somehow Komi and he are rather cute. I feel a little bad for Manbagi, chick who tans too much, because she’s crushing on Tadano, but he only has eyes for Komi. Oh well, waiting for that drama! ( )

During summer vacation, Komi watches after a young houseguest who has her own version of a communication disorder. There is a nice balance of heartwarming drama and joyful humor as they work out their relationship.

In the final quarter of the book, the friendship group gathers for a sleepover full of horror movies and a courage test in a dark forest. Much squealing, handholding, and instant embarrassment ensue.

Whoopsy! As I logged this book I discovered I skipped Vol. 12! Must backtrack ASAP! (You know, I did wonder for a second when that little houseguest had arrived . . . ) Considering the episodic nature of the series and the slow pace of the romance arc, it would be easy to skip volumes, but I certainly wouldn't want to miss a second of the happiness I get from reading about Komi and Tadano. ( )
