CASSIDY MARTIN is a country boy through and through. He loves his horses, his Lord of the Rings tourist business, and his isolated paradise at the foot of New Zealand's Southern Alps. Not that everyone appreciates the seclusion he craves. Take his ex-wife for example. The sexy-as-hell guy on his latest tour might be whip-smart and push all of Cass's buttons, but he's about as country as a pair of Louboutins, and Cass has been there and done that. Broken heart with the T-shirt. STEFAN HAMILTON doesn't do 'outdoorsy', he's a city boy, born and bred. The closest Stef gets to the country is 'Cowboy Night' at his favourite Auckland gay bar even if the music makes Stef want to rip his hair out by the roots. But Stef is also a hardcore Lord of the Rings fanboy. So, when he gets the chance to go on a horse trek to the iconic film locations in the Southern Alps, he sucks up his fear of the gigantic animals and his allergy to camping for the chance to let his nerd flag fly. But when his mate pulls out at the last minute, Stef is left to negotiate the horses, the wrath of mother nature, and an inconvenient crush on the cowboy leading the tour. City meets country and the sparks fly.… (meer)

I'm going to follow other readers and give this 4.5 stars. The two MCs are amazing! the story has adventure. And horses. And some wicked humour. The writing is great ... not quite up there with NR Walker, but definitely in the vicinity.

It's shocking and astonishing that I haven't read a Jay Hogan novel before this. I've had one in my 'basket' for ages, her novel in the Vino and Veritas series, so will pick that up soon.

Cassidy Martin is an accountant/cowboy/tour operator, in love with the beautiful part of New Zealand (Queenstown) where he lives.

Along comes jeweller Stephan Hamilton - gay, sarcastic, brilliant, out of his element in the country, but undertaking a two-night horse ride into the mountains under the tutelage of Cass.

From the beginning, closeted Cass is captivated by the assertively queer Steph. It's a thrilling romance that culminates in exquisite lovemaking from Cass - who knew?!! - that flaws Steph! And so we move from sarcasm to lovesick, awestruck feelings shared between the two.

On the surface they seemed an unlikely love story, but wow, they fall so completely and adorably and unabashedly for each other it's exhilarating.

I agree with the comment below by Lillian_Francis that one of the joys of this novel is that there isn't any angst - maybe a little on the part of Steph - but he quickly decides to leap into a 180 degree opposite kind of life, in the country, if it means sharing his days with Cass. ( )

Absolutely gorgeous.
The setting is amazing. Stef and Cass are super adorable together. This is a whirlwind romance but I found it completely believable.
If you like sassy city boys, semi-closeted cowboys, great scenery, hurt/comfort (but little angst), and great writing, then you'll love this. ( )
