Ik moet echt even bijkomen na het lezen van dit boek. Ik snap nu echt niet meer hoe ik halverwege heb kunnen stoppen en het maanden aan de kant heb kunnen leggen. Het is prachtig. Mooi geschreven maar eenvoudig. Eigenlijk gaat het over familie, vergeving, hoop, onvoorwaardelijke liefde en jezelf wegcijferen om anderen te laten stralen. Het dorp waar de hoofdpersoon Mina, een sterke jonge vrouw, woont wordt al jaren getergd door droogte, stormen, soms met overvloedige regen. Het dorp brengt daarom elk jaar een offer om de Zee God tevreden te stellen. Het mooiste meisje van het dorp wordt geofferd aan de zee. Dit jaar is dat Shim Cheong, de geliefde van Joon, maar zijn zus Mina kan dat laten gebeuren en zij springt zelf in zee. Als ze in de onderwaterstad van de Zee God arriveert heeft ze 30 dagen om uit te zoeken wat er eigenlijk is gebeurd en te proberen om dat op te lossen. Aan het einde heb ik echt behoorlijk moeten huilen. ( )
