There are also short side stories about lesser known people who played a role in the battle. One such story is of John Burns, a 70 year old war veteran who joined the Union Regiment marching past his house.
I think this could work well in an American Lit class, especially if paired with something by Stephen Crane. It's an easy read, and it should be palatable even for students who are behind in their reading level. There could also be some cross discipline cooperation with a History teacher. ( )
