I love the story of the twelve dancing princesses. As a child it was hands down my favorite fairy tale. So I was excited to give this book a go and read this retelling of the story. Now don't get me wrong there are aspects of this that I like, for example, I find the setting (1920's speakeasy's) to be unique and a clever way to modernize the story. But all of the girls seemed to hate one another just for existing. One moment they tolerate one another and the next they've never hated each other more. I mean, maybe this is normal for sisters, I can't speak to that as I only have a brother... but I cannot imaging not getting along or bonding with at least one of the twelve. And I know that Lou is supposed to be the one that Jo bonds with but it never felt anything other than surface level especially since no one talked to one another! No one had intimate conversations or talked about what they wanted out of life nothing, nada! It was just always interpretations from watching one another (which in my experience is not an accurate roadmap into a person's inner self). ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
