( ) This is a must-read compendium of frequently visited numerical methods in scientific computing. It provides intuition, comparison and expansion for each method, but miraculously finishes them in a couple of pages. Perhaps the only caveat is the freshness of these recipes: it considers knowledge before 2007, reaching as late as SVM. But needless to say, the existing contents have proven their usefulness against time. This book saved my life so many times during my professional life that I long ago lost count. This is the original book, and all the examples are in FORTRAN, with the PASCAL translations as an appendix in the back. At the time it was published, you could send away for a floppy disk to get either set of code. When a later version with examples in C was published, I rushed to get the floppy disk of that as well. Pity that Library Thing (and apparently Library of Congress) insists that there can be only one primary author; there were four. There still has not been a book to equal this one, although Applied Cryptography by Bruce Schnieir is equally brilliant in that field. Math is good. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
