WOW, I AM STAYING OUT OF SEA WATER NOW, AS I RAPIDLY READ THIS BOOK AND SHOOK AT THIS HORRORIFIC TALE! NO MORE ISLAND RESORTS FOR ME! From the moment that Randy Hobart entered the scene, I didn't like him as he left his wife of thirteen years for arm candy, and his snooty uppity class ways of throwing around money to get what he wanted regardless of what others wanted. I felt sad that Joe and Sara had sold all of their money to go into ownership of an island resort with Randy but when they arrived little work had been done an none of the locals wanted to work for them saying that the land had been cursed. DEVIL SHIP WILL CREEP YOU OUT AND I CAN'T WAIT TO READ BOOK 2!!! ( )

After sinking all their savings into Pirate Cove resort on the Caribbean island Sainte Isabel, Sara Hansen and her husband relocate to the island. But Sara's island dream is turning into a nightmare. Their business partner is missing presumed dead and it appears that no work has been done on the resort due to the islanders' fear of the legend of the ancient pirate Lemaitre. Locals believe his haunted ship still prowls the island's coast claiming a soul every full moon. The police won't help her so it up to Sara to but a stop to the curse.

Overall I enjoyed the book however I felt it could have been fleshed out more. I feel like the story dragged a little. In my opinion it took a while to build the plot so it felt like not a lot was happening then the story suddenly reached it climax and ended right after. ( )

I don't usually read horror, but was given an ARC of this book. At first I didn't think I would be able to enjoy the book because I didn't like the opening character. If you find that is the case, don't worry, you are not supposed to like him. I ended up enjoying the book, but would definitely classify it more as supernatural thriller than horror. I could easily find myself watching this in movie form if it came out on the big screen. Like others, I did find it somewhat predictable, but that did not lessen my enjoyment of the story.

The opening of the book is fantastic. It really hooked me. As the story progressed, there was a great deal of history of the island and the inkling of suspense. While I expect the plot to slow down some, the next several chapters slowed down the story for me. There wasn't enough of the ship. The ending was predictable, but the characters of Sara and Keri are very interesting. The male characters are fairly one dimensional. For me, I would have preferred to stay with Sara perspective for the entire book.

However, it is a quick read and it is well written. There were a few errors in the book, but nothing that pulled me away from the story. ( )

This book had all the makings of a good supernatural thriller.... tropical setting, pirates, etc. there were just a few things I could not get into. First, I didn’t like ANY of the characters. I didn’t find them to really have redeeming qualities that would endear them to me. I also felt like some of the plot was implausible... and not just the obvious pirate aspect.

As previously stated, I loved the tropical local, and the history that was told of the island. That was a slightly redeeming quality that pushed my rating in the positive direction slightly.

This book tried really hard to be an exciting book, but it really just fell flat for me. It certainly may appeal to some, but it was not my cup of tea. ( )
