This was a short story book full of suspense and horror stories by authors I already read. I enjoyed the variety and the fact that I could read a variety of authors stories in a shorter timeframe. Good read.

I received this ebook through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program and read it in fits and starts through the pandemic. I seem to respond similarly to all the short story collections I've read in the past few years. Slogging through the stories I think are bad doesn't balance the ones I think are good. In this collection I started with one I found to be totally unbelievable, the Karen Vail short story. I was amused by "Cell Phone Intolerant" which took me to a place I've been in reality. The other highlight for me was "Night Shift" although I did see the twist coming in that one. I find these collections to be a time-efficient way of finding authors to investigate (and avoid) and I've put a few on both lists here. ( )

I have never read anything written by Jeffery Deaver, and I’ve actually only read maybe 4 of the author’s included in this anthology. It was a bit exciting going in and, knowing how much I enjoy the work from the writers who I am familiar with, not knowing what to expect from the rest of the book.

There is definitely something for everyone’s tastes here. From serial killers to magic ATM’s...I found each story unique in it’s own way. I found it fun to intentionally skip the page showing the author to see if I could figure out if it was written by a writer I’ve read previously. The result was not what I’d expected.

I really enjoyed Cell Phone Intolerant by Kevin O’Brien, Night Shift by Linwood Barclay and A Creative Defense by Jeffery Deaver. I can’t say I disliked any story, but these three definitely stood out to me. Sometimes short stories have abrupt or rushed endings. I only felt that in a few of the ones here, and it wasn’t enough to make the story any less enjoyable.

Thank you to BookSirens for providing an e-copy of this book for my voluntary review.

This was one of the better short story collections I have read in quite a while. Very nice variety in the flavor of story and well written by all of the authors. All,of the stories were short enough to read in one sitting and held my attention throughout. Highly recommended! ( )
