Ambitious journalist Johnny Barrett (Peter Breck) gets himself confined to an insane asylum in an effort to solve a murder committed in the asylum and as a result win the Pulitzer Prize. His girlfriend Cathy (Constance Towers) thinks it's an insane idea. Writer / director Samuel Fuller's film is as lurid, wild and pulpy as they come. Everything about it is wildly over-the-top and totally ludicrous. The dialogue is hysterical and overblown with Fuller charging headfirst into all kinds of sensitive topics including incest, racism and nymphomania. He directs with an uninhibited fevered intensity, with Peter Breck and (Constance Towers giving equally intense acting performances. "Shock Corridor" is full of shlocky b-movie lunacy, but it also is full of great dialogue, wild cod-psychology and some brilliantly fevered directorial touches.
