It’s my job My personal brand is built on honesty. Family, friendship, cheering other mothers on when things get tough. Doing it together - telling it like it really is – that’s what @the_Mamabare is all about. THE HUSBAND I just want a quiet life Her adoring followers feel like they understand my wife. My wife certainly understands them. I know she is beautiful, smart, ambitious, charming. But she’s also a liar. THE FOLLOWER I want revenge The filter's about to drop. I’ve been watching you and your family very closely. You've ruined my life. Now I'm going to ruin yours. The characters were quite unlikeable but I still enjoyed the book. The instagram "star" was exactly as you would expect full of her own self importance but I was shocked by how every action was carefully orchestrated nothing was as it seemed. . As the story progresses we learn that not everyone is an adoring fan....... I didn't guess the ending which is always great. I would like to thank Netgalley, Harper Books and the authors for giving me an early copy of 'People Like Her' This was an enticing read, I didn't want to put it down. I enjoyed the take of IG culture and understanding some of it. I enjoyed most of the characters ( as much as you really can). The one thing I didn't like was the underlying reason for the vendetta- I found it far-fetched and almost borderline offensive. December BOTM December BOTM
People Like Her (Mantle, £14.99), the first novel from husband-and-wife writing team Ellery Lloyd, is a cautionary tale for the social age. Instamum Emmy Jackson, whose "Mamabare" account offers a purportedly unfiltered view of life with three-year-old Coco and newborn Bear, is adept at keeping the brand relatable while plugging her sponsor's products. Not everyone is happy: the performative motherhood is starting to grate on husband Dan ("Papabare"), but his last novel was published eight years ago and Emmy pays the bills so he's forced to play along - and now somebody seems determined to undermine their carefully curated public lives by posting stolen photos. Sharp observation, well-drawn characters and cleverly ramped-up paranoia more than make up for the rather hammy ending.

I found the premise interesting and unique. And once I started reading it I was hooked.
The plot is well written and it is so current. The main character Emmy, who is an influencer, and her husband, Dan, a novelist are both unlikable in a good way. It aptly covers the benefits and dangers of social media.
It actually got me thinking about the lifestyle of the various social influencers that exist. What seems like a simple job actually requires quite a lot of planning and detailing. And also, sometimes the trolls that they face are quite scary.
This book has a slight dark side in the form of the follower who is in search of revenge, which made it even more enjoyable, along with all the twists and the chilling conclusion.
Overall, an engaging read!
Thank You to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for this ARC! (
