What a fascinating story! The fact that Berlin had been divided up at the conclusion of WW2 is not new, but I certainly never considered what it must have been like to live in one section with the plan to travel to another. Having grown up in peacetime, it is almost impossible to imagine the fear that Zara carried with her as she travelled. Of course included in that fear was the possibility of being detained, not necessarily for any reason, but just because they could.
The opportunity to be a part of the delivery of supplies to the blockaded portion of Berlin was just what Glenn needed. After all, he just wanted to fly, even if it was within the narrow corridor designated as safe. The danger of flying older planes was outweighed by the joy that the candy parachutes brought to the children of Berlin.
Danger, torture and even a German war criminal will keep you enthralled until the end of the book. This ARC was received from the author. My comments and impressions were in no way solicited. ( )
