Mystery murder on Long Island, starring ex-cop working with the retired Internal Affairs cop, who got him fired. ( ) Joe Healy is a disgraced copy, the subject of an IAB investigation. The investigating officer was Bob Healy. After Joe's dismissal, he drove an oil truck for his friend, Frank. Frank, having a good heart, hired people from the local group home, including Cain Cohen, a slightly retarded boy. Cain loved riding with Joe, but sometimes it got too much for him. Finally, he asked Frank to take the kid off his hands. One snowy winter day, Joe unknowingly has to deliver oil to Bob's house. The recent death of Bob's wife has given Bob endless opportunity for thinking and one of the things he's been thinking about is his involvement in Joe's disgraced dismissal from the police force. Days later, Cain is found dead inside the tanker of Joe's truck. Feeling guilty, he vows to find the murderer. It is obvious that Joe's chance meeting with Bob is going to turn into a partnership, and it does. They tie the murder to the Russian mob, illegal oil transfers, and a few other things. One of the nice things about Reed Farrel Colement (aka Tony Spinoza) is that his books take place in the NY metro area. Another is that they are good stories, the writing good, you like the characters (including the inevitable love interest). All in all, Reed Farrel Coleman, including all his pen names, is just a good, reliable, readable mystery writer. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

When former NYPD detective Joe Serpe hit bottom, he just kept on going. Having lost his career to charges of corruption, his family to divorce, his partner to suicide, and his fireman brother to the tragedy of 9/11, Serpe's world is nearly empty but for his cat, Mulligan. Living in a basement apartment in a blue collar town on Long Island, Joe spends his days filling tanks with home heating oil and his nights filling his belly with vodka. But when a young, mentally challenged man who worked for Joe's oil company is cruelly murdered, Joe Serpe rediscovers purpose and grasps for a last chance at redemption. Along with his former Internal Affairs Bureau nemesis, Bob Healy, and Marla Stein, a brave and beautiful, group home psychologist, Joe wades into the world of street gangs, anti-immigration organizations, and the Red Mafia. Hose Monkey is a rough and tumble ride through a violent, often cruel world--a world where it's hard to tell the bad guys from the good guys without a scorecard. It is a world of murder and extortion, but one in which an innocent Down's Syndrome girl may hold the key that unlocks the mystery. At the same time, Hose Monkey is a story of salvation and forgiveness . . . a tale of justice done. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
