From Kirkus: "Gently and thoughtfully teaches about being a hard-of-hearing kid." Boy Bear notices that he has trouble hearing in school and at home. All the while, people keep asking him the question "Can bears ski?" and he has no idea what it means! He is taken to the audiologist and gets hearing aids and figures out that this whole time, people have been asking him, "Can you hear me"! 3-7 years old Bibliotherapy-special needs Timberland Regional Library Recommended by The Catchpoles blog for its accurate depiction of deafness. https://thecatchpoles.net/2021/05/25/disability-in-illustrated-childrens-books-j... A hard-of-hearing bear uses context clues, lip-reading, and vibrations to navigate at home and at school. Dad Bear takes him to the audiologist, who gives him "plastic ears called hearing aids." She adjusts them, and the narrator bear gets used to life with hearing aids - it's not perfect, but it's an improvement, usually ("Whoa...Is life this loud?"). The bear/kid character's struggle to understand everyone around him, and adjust to something new, is portrayed realistically and sensitively.
