Fiction. Literature. HTML:From the #1 best-selling author of The Alchemist comes an inspiring story about a young man seeking wisdom from an elder, and the practical lessons imparted along the way. Includes stunning illustrations by Christoph Niemann.

â??A novelist who writes in a universal language.â?ť â??The New York Times

In The Archer we meet Tetsuya, a man once famous for his prodigious gift with a bow and arrow but who has since retired from public life, and the boy who comes searching for him. The boy has many questions, and in answering them Tetsuya illustrates the way of the bow and the tenets of a meaningful life. Paulo Coelho's story suggests that living without a connection between action and soul cannot fulfill, that a life constricted by fear of rejection or failure is not a life worth living. Paulo Coelho's other works I've read have their fair share of platitudes but The Archer takes the cake there. Which isn't to say it's not worth reading, in fact, I think the way Coelho correlates archery with life and draws parallels between the sport and life is very well done.

This isn't a story you read once, or even twice. It's not even really a story. It's a self help manual (poorly) disguised as a story and to comprehend all of the lessons and comparisons would take dozens of re-reads. Thankfully it's short enough that that's not a problem! ( )

I liked the Manual of the Warrior of Light better than this book. ( )

As someone who has practiced the art of archery for most of my life, Paulo's descriptions of each component and action felt insightful and intimate. A lovely depiction of the zen-like balance necessary for archery, which can also be applied to life. Beautiful illustrations and short chapters encourage the reader to pause while reading and meditate on the message. Loved this book. ( )

This is a very short read, could easily be read before going to bed. For me it was a bit flat. I could understand the point Coehlo was making but it wasn’t the motivational book I thought it would be. ( )
