Jenny lives in a children's home after her mum died in a car accident. Jenny herself was injured and now uses a wheelchair, having had her legs amputated. In part this book deals with Jenny's bereavement and feelings of guilt about her mum's death, and her adjustment to her disability. She is pleased when she is offered the chance to live with a foster family, the Hollands. They seem like a wonderful family, and Jenny loves her little foster brother Stephen. But when she finds a diary belonging to a former foster child who also lived with the Hollands, she realises this perfect family may be hiding a secret. This is an enjoyable read, although I did feel that the end was a little rushed, and that the tension could have been maintained for longer. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
They know. I'm sure of it. And I'm really scared. Who knows what they're capable of? I've got to get away. I've got to escape. It takes just one tragic moment for Jenny's life to change forever. Taken to live at Oak Hall Children's Centre, Jenny begins a very different life, confined to a wheelchair and dreaming of an earlier time filled with love, family and friends. Then Helen and John Holland offer her a foster home with their adorable 5-year-old son, Stephen. The model of a perfect family, Jenny dares to hope that she will at last find some happiness. But when she discovers an old diary beneath a floorboard in her new bedroom, she begins to unravel a horrifying secret. A secret that lies within the padlocked cellar under the house. A secret with mind-blowing consequences. And suddenly Jenny's perfect new life has turned into a deadly nightmare - in which right and wrong no longer exist . . . An intense, frightening and thought-provoking thriller from an exceptional new talent. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

Sarah Wray works with disabled children and brings her expertise into play in this story about Jenny, who lost both her legs and her single parent in a car accident.
Jenny is fostered out and, aged 14, battles to learn to walk with prosthetic legs and her new, slightly disturbing, family. Gentle, sympathetic, though-provoking but at the same time an exciting and sinister thriller, this is a must-read. ( )
