Kevin decides not to go see his family for Thanksgiving and goes home with his rooommate/best friend instead. In spite of them being friends for 6 years, Kevin has never met his friend's dad. So it turns into a little bit of a shock to realize that the dad, Drew, cranks all of Kevin's buttons looks-wise. Kevin and Drew are left pretty much alone all weekend, as the best friend kind of abandons them for his on/off girlfriend. As they get to know one another, Kevin and Drew realize how much they have in common, but decide not to act on their attraction because of Drew's son. When Kevin ends up with Drew for Christmas, as they are abandoned once again for the girlfriend, things kind of explode, with the understanding that after the holidays, it will never happen again, even though they really mesh well together in every way.

(Ugggh! I can't remember the name of the son/friend. It started with J. Jeremy? James? I can't be bothered to look it up, so if I reference him, I'll just call him J, rather than calling him "the friend" or "the son". I can remember the girlfriend's name, though. Angie. And J's mom: Kimberly. For some reason, I am blocking his name out.) So, this book wasn't horrible. And while that might seem like it's damning with faint praise, it's really, really not. Because "not being horrible" means that when I put it down for reasons (sleep, unexpected family visits, prepping breakfasts and lunch for my work week), it didn't completely annoy me when I picked it back up. The characters weren't silly and simpering when I delved into their world again, which is a big step up from books I've been attempting to read lately. I liked how supportive of each other Kevin and Drew were, even without the promise of a relationship. Yes, they were flirty, but they also listened to each other without the expectation of anything more. I did have a little issue with Kevin pushing the "no" that Drew gave him once they were in the cabin. I mean, I know that Drew did acutally want to have sex with him, but he said no at first, and it kind of felt like Kevin didn't take it entirely seriously and kept trying to convince him to change the no to a yes. Other than that, the story was fine. Issues were actually talked about, instead of just glossed over, and things weren't instantly amazing after big reveals or explosions. All in all, an okay read. Age gap romance. Falling in love with his best friend's dad.
The gap between Kevin and Drew is 23 years but Kevin is 25. And the first time Drew meets Kevin is the Thanksgiving mentioned in this story, so Drew didn't know Kevin as a child. Just wanted to establish that, because there is nothing squicky about this relationship. Despite the age difference the MCs have plenty in common and I thought the relationship evolved organically.
There is nothing taboo about the relationship for the world at large, their only issue is how Jason, Drew's son, might react.
To be honest I found Jason to be a bit of a dick with no regard for others feelings, so l struggled to understand why they wanted to spare his feelings.
There was quite a number of sex scenes for what is ultimately a sweet story. Personally I would have preferred one or two of them to have been swapped for a few more intimate getting to know you scenes.
The conflict when it hit made me sob but it was solved quite quickly so the angst wasn't stretched out.
Recommended as a sweet holiday read. ( )

I liked this a lot. Kevin and Jason are best friends and roommates. When Kevin isn’t able to visit family for Thanksgiving, Jason invites him to spend it with him and his dad, Drew. Kevin and Drew had an instant attraction, but they tried to ignore it side of Jason. They got to know each other without a physical connection, and they just had great chemistry. When they finally gave in to their desires, it was perfect. I loved how their relationship evolved. I also loved Jason. I was expecting angst, but I was pleased with how it all worked out. I really enjoyed this, and I definitely want to read more books by this author. ( )
