In the unremarkable town of Amberside, the unthinkable has happened: Terrorists have attacked a local festival. No one knows why, and no one knows who the attackers are, but that doesn't matter. What matters first is survival. And what matters after that is survival, too. In this brilliantly written account of hope, humour and humanity, five ordinary teenagers are caught up in a truly extraordinary situation. It's a heart-pounding and gripping account of the fight for survival as the attackers prowl the festival grounds, told from multiple perspectives.… (meer)

Told as recollections of a night when terrorists open fire on an open-air music festival in an English country town. The festival is held on an island with a large wall surrounding one side of an ancient house, which means when the shooting starts, everyone can only run across a bridge to escape (where they are picked off by gunmen) or retreat into the house. Peaches, Violet, Joe and Ellie tell their stories so the reader immediately knows that they survive the attack. Its a fast paced, short paragraphed suspense filled tale as they watch their family members, friends and members of the community get gunned down. The author has added a nice touch with the inclusion of March, an Islamic student who also has to run for his life. I like also how the author doesn't give any air time at the Inquest into who the terrorists are and what their motive is for killing indiscriminately - the main focus is on the event happening and how it impacts on the young people's lives. A great "What if" book for readers - What If I was faced with the same scenario? How would I react? Would I react like the teenagers in this book do?
Similar book is "Only Child" and some of Sarah Mussi's books like "Bomb." ( )
