The included poems create imagery that is easily understood and some thought provoking about city life. Several aspects of the city, such as skyscrapers, subways, and the city dump are explained through poetry. I chose this book because several of the students I had encountered during previous observations have never been outside of the small rural town where they live and attend school. The poetry and illustrations allow the rural students’ insight into the vast experiences available in the city alongside the challenges present there. ( )
