"Eyes aren't the windows to the soul. Emails are. Cassie Woodson is adrift. After suffering an epic tumble down the corporate ladder, Cassie finds the only way she can pay her bills is to take a thankless temp job reviewing correspondence for a large-scale fraud suit. The daily drudgery amplifies all that her life is lacking--love, friends, stability--and leaves her with too much time on her hands, which she spends fixating on the mistakes that brought her to this point. While sorting through a relentless deluge of emails, something catches her eye: the tender (and totally private) exchanges between a partner at the firm, Forest Watts, and his enchanting wife, Annabelle. Cassie knows she shouldn't read them. But it's just one look. And once that door opens, she finds she can't look away. Every day, twenty floors below Forest's corner office, Cassie dissects their emails from her dingy workstation. A few clicks of her mouse and she can see every adoring word they write to each other. By peeking into their apparently perfect life, Cassie finds renewed purpose and happiness, reveling in their penchant for vintage wines, morning juice presses, and lavish dinner parties thrown in their stately Westchester home. There are no secrets from her. Or so she thinks. Her admiration quickly escalates into all-out mimicry, because she wants this life more than anything. Maybe if she plays make-believe long enough, it will become real for her. But when Cassie orchestrates a "chance" meeting with Forest in the real world and sees something that throws the state of his marriage into question, the fantasy she's been carefully cultivating shatters. Suddenly, she doesn't simply admire Annabelle--she wants to take her place. And she's armed with the tools to make that happen."--… (meer)

Another book with such promise that I can only give three stars too. I hope in 2022 I do a better job at picking thrillers to read. Cassie Woodson is tempting at a new law firm. Her job is to sift through emails and pick out any that stand out. While clicking away, just doing her mindless job, Cassie comes across private emails from one of the lawyers, Forest Watts. Interesting setup for the story considering Cassie is let go from her last job in a very public shameful way. But I do not want to spill the tea you will have to read all on your own.
One-click leads to another and Cassie knows just about everything about Forest. She knows his address, his wife's name, even where he goes for drinks after work. Feeling like it is not enough, Cassie hungers for more information. She needs to know everything about the man. Obsession turns to fear when she finds out just who Forest really is...

It is hard to read a good stalker, obsession book after such amazing books as Caroline Kepnes, YOU. I fell in love with Joe, and now want all my obsessed protagonists to be exactly like him. I was really hoping to see a little bit of Joe, in this book. But it didn’t really meet Joe's standards at all.
Just One Look isn't as much about the need to stalk, as it is about the actual stalking. The obsessive-compulsive needs to know everything but be comfortable and safe in her environment. It wasn’t as dark and as fast-paced as I would have liked. The whole story could have been turned up a notch and perfect. Instead, it was a slow burn that kind of falls flat. Overall, will read again from this author three solid stars. ( )

Well, this book shocked me. I went into it blind and I’m thankful I did. It reminded me of Fatal Attraction. A woman becomes consumed and obsessed with a partner at the law firm she temps at. Great twists! Solid thriller ( )

Crazy stalker Cass can’t help her obsession for love. Fired from her job at Nolan & Wright because of her obsession for coworker and ex-boyfriend Landon, she is forced to take a temp job at another firm Levy & Strong. While there she comes across personal emails between husband and wife - Forest and Annabelle Watts. Their marriage becomes a threesome in Cass’s mind. One that she’s a part of. Only she doesn’t know who they truly are and finds herself in quite a sticky situation.

Fast-paced and compelling, Just One Look will have you flipping the pages guessing at what’s to come. I think this was a fun read.

This book sucks. It's so bad that I would insult some segment of society by supplying a metaphor. It's not romance (not my thing anyway) and it's not drama. It's just so much nonsense that a 7th grade girl would reject the drivel it slobbers all over. There, I've done it--insulted 7th graders. I listened to about two of it's ten hours before I choked and spit it out. DNF. ( )
