Alex had to leave the mean streets of Chicago in a hurry. Now he's weathering his first Christmas in a small town in Colorado. 3.5 stars. The MCs start out like oil and water: they don't mix. Alex is still in the Chicago, everyone-for-themselves mindset. He's broke, jobless, and in pain. He's grumpy as hell. Cory just found out his now ex-boyfriend thinks his career path is a joke, among other things he neglected to tell him. Cory is lonely and not in the best of moods. Alex and Cory only see the worst in each other at first, judging the book by the cover. But they do soon start to see beneath the exterior. I liked the slow progression of their relationship. It's a cute, opposites attract kind of story. They are lovable sort of characters. Made me want to have a cup of hot chocolate and snuggle up by the fire with a book. (

A bit slow at the start and it took a while for me to sink into, I wasn't sure about either of the main characters but they are both men who have built walls to protect themselves from the hurt and dangers of the world. By the time they were drinking Cory's special hot chocolate I was totally invested in these two very different men and their relationship and the second half was just adorable.
This wasn't a quick read for me. I put it aside several times near the beginning and once I was invested I seemed to read for hours without the counter on my Kindle moving more than a few minutes. But the time invested was worth it in the end.
A well written slow burn romance with two MCs that have to work for their happy ending. (

Very sweet Christmas story. Alex and Cory took a little bit to get on the HEA track as they dealt with baggage, but it was a good read in the end. Perfect for the holiday season.
