An excellent start to a new series!

Haunted by the serial killer she never caught, Detective Kimberley King leaves her job in New York and relocates to the sleepy town of Dead Woman Crossing, Oklahoma. Kimberley hopes to bring her daughter Jessica up close to her family, far from the bad memories the city holds. But her quiet new home is not the peaceful place she dreamed of.

Within days of her arrival, Kimberley is called to the scene of a terrible murder of a young mother. Kimberley can’t ignore the similarity of the current murder to that of another young woman who was murdered in 1905 on the banks of the same twisting creek.

In a town where news spreads like wildfire, Kimberley has a hard time gaining trust and answers. But with the help of Sheriff Sam Walker, she needs to find the killer before the killer targets her next.

I just loved the main characters of Detective Kimberley King and Sheriff Sam. Kimberly's daughter Jessica is just so adorable. And Barb, is one character that just lights up anyone's face with a smile thanks to her amazing personality.

Even though I had few doubts about who the killer could be right at the beginning, I enjoyed reading this. It was fast paced and well written. The plot flowed smoothly, so I couldn't stop reading till I finished.

Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series!

Dead Woman Crossing by J.R. Adler
Kimberly King #1

A new book, a great beginning to a new series, an interesting relatable main character to star in the series, an intriguing supporting cast of characters, and a new author making a delightful debut with more books for me to look forward to made this a wonderful way to spend the day!

What I liked:
* Kimberly King: an intelligent woman at the top of her profession who made the choice to move from the NYPD to small town Oklahoma for a variety of reasons…mainly to have more time with her 16 month old daughter.
* Sam Walker: Sheriff and Kimberly’s boss. I have high hopes for him as the series progresses
* Dead Woman Crossing: small town with a big history
* Bearfield, Burns, Hill and Barb: co-workers of Kimberly’s that all sound intriguing – looking forward to hearing more about them as the series develops
* Emily: an interesting woman that may prove to be a good friend to Kimberly in the future
* The flashbacks Kimberly had related to her childhood, relationship with Jessica’s father and her last case in New York
* The police procedural aspects of the story
* The potential for romance in the future
* Finding out who the murderer was

What I did not like:
* The callousness of the murderer and the questionable reason for the murder
* The fact that Kimberly’s mother was such a wimp
* Having to wait for book two to be ready to read
* That the last case Kimberly was on in NY was unsolved…wondering if perhaps it will be in the future

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes
