It was started in the 1990's by the original author. It was then discovered that the author suffered from Alzheimers and had managed to hide it. This became apparent at a meeting to review his finished sequel. The sequel was not finished as announced. Kevin J. Anderson was hired to finish the book. This could have been a great book, but the author(s) apparently stuck with the logic of the 1940's. The book reads like many sci-fi books of this period, including "spinning computer tapes" and "cathode tubes". There are many logical implausibilities in the story.
