This is the first book about the ceramic glaze called Shino. Shino originated in Japan in the 16th and 17th centuries as a phenomenal glaze. It then disappeared from records for almost 400 years. In the past 25 years, however, the Shino glaze has been revived and further developed by American ceramic artists, and has become the ubiquitous glaze employed by artists throughout the US and around the world. American Shino features more than 120 different works by 50 of the most famous ceramic artists to work with Shino over the past quarter of a century.American Shino is an encyclopedic book of the glaze itself, as well as of the finest and most famous artists that use it. It includes essays by seven major ceramic artists who give insight into their personal Shino experiences. In addition, the book has information on and commentaries by each of the contributing artists as well as glaze recipes and discussions on their use. This is the only visual reference for the wide range of color and texture characteristics of the Shino glaze. The book is a celebration of the artists' visions and passion for expressive achievement that has been the character of Shino's use in America. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
