Repairs on the Golden Gate Bridge Uncover a Century-Old Murder

Walk through Doors to the Past via a new series of historical stories of romance and adventure.

Underwater archaeologist Kayla Richardson is called to the Golden Gate Bridge where repairs to one of the towers uncovers two human remains from the late 1800s and the 1930s. The head of the bridge restoration is Mark Andrews, who dives with Kayla, and a friendship develops between them. But as the investigation heats up and gold is found that dates back to the gold rush, more complications come into play that threaten them both. Could clues leading to a Gold Rush era mystery that was first discovered during the building of the bridge still ignite an obsession worth killing for?

Bridge of Gold was an excellent addition to Doors of the Past series.
Ms. Woodhouse did a stellar job connecting two timelines around a treasure from an old ship to the building of the Golden Gate Bridge. Kayla, a present day diver and archeologist is hired by the Mayor of San Francisco to investigate a sunken ship found by Steven, another diver, who is restoring the bridge. The mystery ramps up when they find treasure and bones! The story goes back and forth from the present to 1933 when construction on the bridge began. The author plots an interesting and believable tale as she imparts fascinating information about San Francisco and what lies beneath. In both timelines, a greedy villain is preventing the search for gold from going forward and puts divers in danger. I was kept guessing as to who was the one behind the dastardly deeds.
As with her other historicals, Ms. Woodhouse did extensive research and the result is an engaging story with a solid faith thread.
*I purchased this book from Christian Books in February 2023. All opinions are my own.* ( )

This Christian novel is both contemporary and historical. In 1933, the Golden Gate Bridge is being built, which involves divers setting the pillars for the supporting towers. While diving, something unusual is found. Jump to the present day, and repairs being made to the bridge turn up the same sunken ship. Because there is treasure in it, in both 1933 and the present, greed drives men to become criminal. I learned some about the ships buried under San Francisco, under the city and around the bridge, remnants of the Gold Rush. This is also a romance with a strong Christian message running throughout. My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
When I read the synopsis of this book, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to add it to my “to be read” pile. However, after a while, I took a chance and bought a copy. I am very happy to share with you that this novel is indeed one readers don’t want to pass up!
There are three timelines running parallel that are tied together by a mystery. Three characters from different time periods tied together by an underwater ship named Lucky Martha that sunk in the San Francisco Bay long ago with a large cache of gold. The first character we meet is Luke who is a diver working on the construction of the San Francisco Bridge. Then, we meet Kayla who is an underwater archeologist hired by the city to help authenticate what was recently unearthed below the waters in the same area where Luke worked. The third character is a mysterious interested party in all three timelines who believes what is buried underneath the surface belongs to him, and him alone. He will do anything to make sure no one gets what is his!
Throughout the novel snippets of each character’s background, personality and story are slowly revealed sometimes through using flashbacks. The book is filled with mystery and intrigue, romance, faith and believe me surprise twists in the plot that you won’t see coming! Kimberley Woodhouse told a very interesting tale that kept me reading until I finished the book. The ending was extremely touching! I recommend making time to read and enjoy Bridge of Gold as it will at times leave you holding your breath as you wait to see what is going occur. Then look forward to the author’s upcoming book, A Deep Divide, which is the first book in her new Secrets of the Canyon series.
Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility. ( )

Bridge of Gold by Kimberley Woodhouse is the third novel in Doors to the Past series. I thought Bridge of Gold was well-written with developed characters. It is a time slip novel told from two time periods and from multiple points of view. It can be confusing in the beginning until you adjust (learn the characters). I like that we also get the villains point-of-view in both time periods. It makes the story more intriguing, and I like figuring out the identity of the bad guy. The author did her research for this book. She captured the 1930s and the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was interesting learning what went into making this beautiful and lengthy bridge. The divers had their work cut out for them with the shifting currents and steep drop off. I loved the addition of a sunken ship with treasure. I like how the author tied the past and present together with a satisfying conclusion. I appreciate it when the author makes sure that there are no loose ends. I also liked how faith was incorporated into the story. I enjoyed the descriptions of San Francisco along with those below water. The authors word imagery allowed me to imagine seeing the treasure ship for the first time along with feeling the excitement. The romances were clean and the historical one was sweet. The author expertly weaves together the past and present into one pleasing tale. Each novel in the Doors to the Past series can be read on its own. Bridge of Gold is a compelling novel with greed, murder, a buried ship, sought after treasure, faith, and love. ( )

This dual timeline book grabbed my attention at first, but then I doubted if I would like it. But finally, I became captivated by it. I found depth in the characters in both timelines. The story centers on a sunken ship with treasure aboard at two different times wrecked around the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. I found the characters and storyline to be well-developed.

I loved reading about Kayla, the underwater archaeologist, and Steven Michaels, the head of the bridge restoration group. More than just an excellent story, I learned things in this book – including the fact that people serve as underwater archaeologists. The history and information about the Golden Gate Bridge also intrigued me. I may have to go learn more about both the bridge and underwater archaeology. So if you like split-time line stories that involve characters learning to move forward and showing faith and courage, check out this book for yourself.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but it in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own. ( )
